Vision
To ensure orderly, safe, healthy, convenient and aesthetically balanced physical developments in the urban settlements in Niger State.
Mission
To execute and monitor programmes and projects towards attainment of liveable settlements.
Departments
The edict provided for four (4) departments, however, the Board presently has two departments:
Administration and Finance
With administration, accounts and store.
Urban and Regional Planning department
With Town Planning, Architecture, Building, Quantity Survey and Estate Survey Sections and structural engineering as a subsidiary unit under it.
Functions of the Board
The Board by the provisions of the enabling law is saddled with the following responsibilities:
- Administration, execution, enforcement of the provision of the enabling planning laws within designated urban areas.
- Preparation of regional, sub-regional and urban master plans
- Development Control activities
- Development of serviced layout (residential and commercial)
- Development of parks, gardens and markets
- Beautification and landscaping of urban centres
- Coordination of activities of utility agencies e.g. Water Board, PHCN.
- Settlement of Disputes related to physical development issues between individuals and organizations.
- Granting of building/development plan permits
- Promotion and conduct of research works
- Collaboration with Government Agencies, Non-Governmental and Community Based Organizations, Donour Agencies etc.
- Acquisition of land, design, development and management of properties
- Preparation and execution of urban renewal schemes
- Preservation of monuments and other structures of historical and architectural importance
- Co-ordination of street naming and house numbering in the state urban centres.
